Teacher Movies
New teachers (yes you K. Hanes!), interns and teachers needing a recharge here is a short list of the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly teacher movies with editorial input added just because I can. The next night you want to save some money -stay in, eat Ben & Jerry's, rent a movie (DVD). This is a list that will make you laugh, cry or just think.

1. To Sir with Love- From the sixties but a great example of caring, individual instruction, and teaching. Warning this movie will make you cry!
2. Teachers- A seventies movie that will make you laugh, cry, and angry! The movie portrays the ugly side of teachers and education. The movie is also funny at times espessially the "Crazy" substitute teacher.
3. Lean on Me- The true story of Joe Clark a strong inner city principal. It is education truth and consiquences!
4. Coach Carter- Coaching where you remember what is important.
5. October Sky- Dreams in a poor small town. A teacher that supports the imagination of a student.
6. Stand and Deliver- One story of a teacher that made a difference. The sad part is that he left east L.A. (Wonder why?).
7. Blackboard Jungle- A fifties movie with intensity.
8. Dangerous Minds- Not my favorite movie but the book and true story is interesting.
9. Glory Road- Not really a true teacher movie but a great example of overcoming great odds.
10. To sir with love II- Yes there is a second one set in the United States. It is a fairly good movie about inner city ideas and expectations.
11. Enemy Mine- Sci-Fi but a different look at prejudice and the teaching that goes on in a "family."
12. Mr. Holland's Opus- If this does not make you cry you need to get out of education!
13. Dead Poets Society- Find your inner "Yhaap". Enjoy the passion of growth.
14. Conrack- The true story of teaching in the low tidal south. You will grow with every kid in the room.
15. School of Rock- Modern, funny not too realistic but worth a night of popcorn and pepsi!
16. Sister Act 2- Singing their way into education and setting standards.
17. The Emporer's Club- A look into a students future a teacher does not often get.
18. Man without a face. Not for the timid but wow!
