Who is Larry Volk?
Larry graduated from the University of Virginia in 1977 with state certification in mathematics, general science, and physics. He taught in an inner city setting at Thomas Jefferson High School in Richmond, VA, subjects ranging from general math to computer programming to AP® Physics. He then pursued master's and doctoral degrees at the University of Virginia, teaching graduate courses in computer application and continuing education related to "Discovery Education." When he completed his work at Virginia in 1993, he returned to teaching, this time in Wilmington, NC, at John T. Hoggard High School. Larry is National Board Certified in Adolescence and Young Adulthood/Mathematics

Larry has experienced Montessori Training with 4-year olds, studied toxic fish in the Virgin Islands, taught computer technology to middle school kids, and coached and worked with athletes on the high school and university levels. He has been trained as a Certified Teacher Trainer for Carnegie Learning, a company that uses instructional technology and teacher training to bring mathematics to students at all levels from diverse backgrounds. His enthusiasm for teaching, and love of working with kids, shines through everything he does. This ardor led to his compiling some of the successful classroom techniques he has accumulated over the years into a Teacher's Bag of Tricks™.
